Course Summary

The TAE50122 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training is for experienced VET professionals who would like to move into a more senior or leadership role in the VET Sector in one (or more) of the following 3 specialisations:

  • Advanced Training and Assessment
  • Design and Development
  • VET Leadership

The Diploma of VET is for experienced VET professionals who are working in an RTO and who hold the TAE40116 or TAE40122 in order to meet the pre-requisite requirements. This means this isn't for those who haven't yet completed, or who have recently completed their Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

The TAE50122 Diploma of VET is made up of 12 units of competency at a cost of $350 per unit, with an enrolment period of 24 months (2 months per unit).   The specialisation you choose will impact the elective units you will complete. You can complete the units through either an RPL pathway, if you can provide evidence from the last 3 years, or through what we refer to as a coursework assessment, where you would complete the practical assessment requirements in your workplace.  You may be eligible for Credit Transfers from other qualifications you've completed.  This could reduce the number of units and associated costs.  For example, if you qualify for 2 credit transfers, you would only need to complete 10 units @$350 each over 20 months.

Watch Jimmy's story and see why Fortress stands out from other RTO's.

The new qualification TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment was a very challenging course. I have been in the VET sector for almost 30 years and have gone through many of the qualification upgrades. This new one was no "give me". The assistance I got from the FL team was amazing. I was supported every step of the way. A fantastic learning and development experience. Thank you

I am very happy to have selected and committed to Fortress learning and would highly recommend anyone considering to upgrade their qualifications or begin their training to go with their training organisation. Thanks again Deb for your time, knowledge and skills.

The TAE workload was boulderous and daunting, but trainer Deb Thomas assisted me throughout. Her explanations untangled jargon and simplified arduous assessment tasks. Her incredible support enabled me to complete the TAE. THANK YOU!!! Although I primarily teach in a degree course, areas covered such as "reasonable adjustment" will assist with my Higher Ed work. I recommend Fortress to anyone contemplating a TAE: the service was both excellent and comprehensive.

This course has made me a better Trainer and Assessor in many ways. The research project was intense, but very rewarding, I intend to implement many of the strategies I have learned throughout the course. The training staff at Fortress were fantastic and very supportive all the way, they did not hesitate to help me when it was needed. Many thanks to Fortress, especially Jane MacIntosh.

Asked Questions

Can I do a double or triple specialisation?

Yes. The common units you complete in the 1st specialisation can be credit transferred (CT) to the 2nd one and 3rd. When enrolling on our website you do not need to enrol into each specialisation, you will just enrol into the TAE50122 Diploma of VET and the specialisations will be determined as part of your Personal Learning Plan discussion.

How long does the TAE50122 - Diploma of VET take to complete?

Our enrolment period for the Diploma with 12 units is 24 months (we allocate 2 months per unit).  This is dependent on the number of units you will be completing.  This is the time allowed for you to complete in, but you can progress at your own pace and complete in a shorter period.

The duration also depends on your prior learning, experience, and available time.

How does Recognition of Prior Learning work for the TAE50122 Diploma of VET?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows you to demonstrate your existing skills and knowledge gained through work experience to meet the requirements of specific units.

During your initial discussion , we will assess your experience and determine which units can be completed through RPL and which will be completed through a traditional coursework assessment.

If you qualify for RPL, you will receive an RPL Kit. This kit outlines the specific evidence you need to provide, which must be from the past three years. You will then be required to explain how you applied these skills and knowledge in your workplace.  There is no difference in cost between units completed through RPL and coursework.

How does Credit Transfer work for the TAE50122 Diploma of VET?

You may be eligible for credit transfer if you already hold Units of Competency that are part of the TAE50122 or can be imported. You can import up to 2 units of competency from any Training Package, as long as they are equivalent, relevant to the essential outcomes of the TAE Qualification, and are at AQF Level 5 or higher (one may be an AQF Level 4) For each credit rebate you are eligible for, the cost of your course will reduce by $350 t, shortening your course duration by two months.

Can I start the course anytime, or are there specific start dates?

We offer rolling enrolments which means you do not have to wait to enrol in your course.

Upon notification of your application and payment of the initial $150 deposit, a course advisor/student support team member or trainer will reach out to ensure your suitability for enrolment and to develop your personal learning plan.  This is a self paced self directed online course so once all pre-enrolment and enrolment checks are complete, we will activate your learner portal, you will receive login details and you can begin your course and access all of your training and assessment materials.

Is this the only vocational education Diploma now?

Yes, this diploma merges two previous TAE Diploma qualifications - TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training and TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development. The TAE50122 offers three specialisation pathways and has been deemed NOT equivalent to either of the previous two diplomas.

How do you determine my suitability for this course?

During your Course Discussion call, before you are able to complete the enrolment form, our student support team member or trainer will guide you through a verbal conversation regarding suitability.

What will I be asked?

The Suitability assessment consists of different questions that will address the technical requirements of the program, such as required IT and digital literacy skills. We will also make sure you have access to the human and physical resources you need for the practical requirement of your course.

This ensures that you are placed in the right course for you before you enrol formally.

What happens if I am found not suitable?

If for some reason, during your Enrolment Interview, we discover that based on the suitability responses you give, you cannot continue with the enrolment, we will offer other alternative solutions or refund your fees paid including the enrolment interview fee.

What is a Personal Learning Plan?

Your Personal Learning Plan outlines all the units that make up your course and how you’ll complete each one. Based on this plan, we’ll set up your Learner Portal accordingly.

What happens if I need more time to complete the course?

Extensions are available upon request, ensuring you have the time you need to complete the qualification successfully. To view our extension options click here

What if I need to take a break from studying?

The flexibility of our online approach means that if you need to take a break from studying, we’ve got that covered too.We offer the option to defer (pause) your studies. Whilst you are deferred, your enrolment is inactive, and we pause your enrolment duration. Then, when you are reactivated from deferment, you pick up exactly where you left off and carry on.

Here is what you need to know about deferring:You can defer a maximum of two times. The first deferment is free, and the second deferment has a $45 fee.Payment plans continue on deferment, and your payments must be up to date before we can defer you.

You won’t have access to your trainer or learning platform while you’re status is “deferred”.If you have at least 6 weeks remaining in your enrolment, you can defer for up to 3 months. After that, you can defer for twice the amount of time remaining in your enrolment (for example, if you have 1 week left in your enrolment, you can defer for 2 weeks.)

The most important thing is to contact us if your enrolment isn’t going as you planned so that we can offer you the best support options as and when you need them.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

Upon Application:

  • If you are found not to be suitable for entry into any of our programs, we will refund all money paid.
  • If you choose not to continue with the enrolment interview or application, we will refund the money paid, excluding the $150 application fee.

  • If you choose to withdraw within the 30-day cooling-off period, you will receive a full refund of the fees paid (excluding the $150 application fee).
