Every now and then, a graduating student writes a review that we believe really captures what we try to do. Instead of them ending up hidden among the others, we will share them with you, and try to explain why we think they are so appropriate.
Q. What worked for you?
Having the access to my trainer, and being able to talk things through. Much of what I did previously was delivered not in Australia or was a few years old. Having this mentor, to talk my assignments through with, worked well for me.
Q. What didn’t work for you?
Basically, all went well. I did break my studies and recommence. But this was an easy process.
Q. What advice would you give to others considering studying this course in this way?
Consider your options first… Online learning is excellent and flexible, but some people need a face to face approach and need to attend classes. Myself personally, I do not think you get the quantity out of classroom attendance study. Fortress Learning supplied documentation is excellent reference material to retain.
Q. Is there anything else you’d like to include?
A special thank you to my trainer. His assessment of my submitted works was no less than I would expect myself if I was the trainer. Extremely fair. He applied Rules of Evidence very well.
Our Trainers really are rather good (if we do say so ourselves!) and this is why:
They’re not just knowledgeable in their field of training and, as David mentions, the Rules of Evidence, but they’re particularly skilled in communicating with people. This doesn’t mean they’re simply good talkers, it means that they’re good listeners, too. They understand that successful learning is built upon the relationship between trainer and learner.. yes, even in an online setting! David refers to his trainer as a “mentor”; someone with whom he could “talk things through”. Talking through, as opposed to talking to, involves asking questions, providing guidance, offering alternatives, seeking understanding, negotiating, ensuring clarity and instilling confidence… Essentially, getting to know you – building a relationship – so that you get the most, and best, out of your training.
Fortress Learning delivers training to people from incredibly diverse backgrounds; all with different vocations, commitments, interests, families, skills, schedules and goals. When we say we’re flexible, this doesn’t just mean you get to study when you like, where you like. It also means we are flexible to your needs and situations. David had a break in his studies – we can work with this. David’s experience was overseas and his evidence “a few years old” – again, we can work with this… in a way that balances your needs with those of your qualification.
