Course Summary

This skill set provides the skills and knowledge to work under supervision to train others in the VET sector via face-to-face and in-person delivery model. This is also an alternative path to the full TAE40122 Certificate in Training and Assessment (units can be credited towards the full qualification).

Here's why choosing Fortress Learning for this course is the BEST decision:

  • Learner Portal Access 24/7: Our learner portal is intuitive, easy to navigate, and packed with all the tools you need to succeed.
  • Personalised Learning Plan: We will develop a personal learning plan so we can ensure your journey is unique and specific to your needs.
  • Assessment Instruction tutorials: Dive into our recorded assessment videos that walk you through your assessment task in detail with trainer examples and explanations to set the context.
  • Simulated and workbased assessments: You can blend your training (just like a traineeship) and work with your own workplace from some of the assessments and complete our simulated assessments when the workplace can't provide the resources needed. This lets you take control of the learning and assessment and will be discussed and documented in your welcome call with your trainer.

Course Overview

There are no formal entry requirements for this skill set.

This is an online self-paced, self-directed course, so you must have a satisfactory level of digital literacy ( this means being able to download and upload Word documents, use the internet, open links, and navigate webpages confidently).

You will also need access to a computer (not ipad or phone) to complete the course assessment documents. These are Word documents so software including Microsoft Office and access to an online communication platform such as Teams/Zoom and stable internet access are required

The following 3 units of competency will be covered:

  • TAEDES411 Use nationally recognised training products to meet vocational training needs
  • TAEASS412 Assess Competence
  • TAEASS413 Participate in Assessment Validation

If you currently work in an RTO, you can use a large number of resources from your workplace if they will allow you access (ask us about the list of what you'll need in your enrolment interview).

If you don't work in an RTO, we will provide everything you need. However, the following will need to be provided by you regardless of whether you do or do not work in an RTO which option you need to use:

  • A minimum of 4 people to be learners for face-to-face, in-person, group-based training. You will deliver 3 x 30-minute sessions of face-to-face, in-person group training based on units of competency to this group
  • An additional 5th person (this cannot be one of the 4 above). You will deliver 2 x 30 minute sessions of face to face, in person individually tailored training based on units of competency to this person.

These participants can be real colleagues, family members, or friends who will either be actual candidates ( if accessing real  students in your workplace)  or act as roleplaying students( if accessing family/friends or colleagues) .You just need to record the training session and be able to upload the recording to us via your Learner Portal (you have unlimited tech support if you need help doing this part).

Note: If using family/ friends, they must be 16+ years old to be considered one of your learners.

The new qualification TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment was a very challenging course. I have been in the VET sector for almost 30 years and have gone through many of the qualification upgrades. This new one was no "give me". The assistance I got from the FL team was amazing. I was supported every step of the way. A fantastic learning and development experience. Thank you

Thanks to Jane for her support all the way. I definitely had trouble interpreting academic speak as I am from a trade background. With Jane's help I found it easier to understand and ultimately got through.

I’m not a person who takes to technology and computers easily, I never gained an education through high school. Thanks to Deb and the team at Fortress, I was able to get my qualification to start my dream job, training and assessing apprentices. I would like to thank everyone at Fortress for helping and guiding me along the way, I will be forever grateful!

The TAE workload was boulderous and daunting, but trainer Deb Thomas assisted me throughout. Her explanations untangled jargon and simplified arduous assessment tasks. Her incredible support enabled me to complete the TAE. THANK YOU!!! Although I primarily teach in a degree course, areas covered such as "reasonable adjustment" will assist with my Higher Ed work. I recommend Fortress to anyone contemplating a TAE: the service was both excellent and comprehensive.

This course has made me a better Trainer and Assessor in many ways. The research project was intense, but very rewarding, I intend to implement many of the strategies I have learned throughout the course. The training staff at Fortress were fantastic and very supportive all the way, they did not hesitate to help me when it was needed. Many thanks to Fortress, especially Jane MacIntosh.

Can I start the course anytime, or are there specific start dates?

We offer rolling enrolments which means you do not have to wait to enrol in your course.

Upon notification of your application and payment of the initial $150 deposit, a course advisor/student support team member or trainer will reach out to ensure your suitability for enrolment and to develop your personal learning plan.  This is a self paced self directed online course so once all pre-enrolment and enrolment checks are complete, we will activate your learner portal, you will receive login details and you can begin your course and access all of your training and assessment materials.

Can this course be counted towards the full TAE40122 Cert IV?

Yes! If you choose to do the full Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) at some point in the future, the units in this course are a direct credit transfer across so you wouldn't have to repeat them. AND we reduce the cost of your Cert IV course cost for every unit we can tick off via a credit transfer. BONUS!

How do I know if this is the right course for me?

After enrolling you an book a course discussion where we’ll conduct a "Suitability Assessment." This series of questions will help us determine whether you can meet the technical, practical, and skill requirements needed to confidently complete this course online.

The technical requirements include regular computer access, knowledge, and confidence in navigating email, logins, and websites. The practical questions ensure you have access to the human and physical resources you need to complete the assessments in your course.

We will ask additional questions about your goals, your online experience and comfort level in learning online, your learning ability, plus your availability to study. This is all to ensure you're in the right course and ready to succeed before enrolling formally. This gives you more confidence that you can absolutely get all the way to graduation.

If the course is found to be unsuitable for you, your deposit (including the $150 enrolment interview fee) will be fully refunded. However, the enrolment fee is not refunded if you don't show up for your enrolment interview or change your mind after the interview within the 30-day cooling-off period.

How long will this course take?

The enrolment period for this course is 3 months, which is ample time for the average student who can only study part-time and outside normal working hours, to complete all of the work and assessments in this course. It just requires regular study hours and reaching out for help if and when you need it.

What if I need to take a break from studying?

The flexibility of our online approach means that if you need to take a break from studying, we’ve got that covered too.We offer the option to defer (pause) your studies. Whilst you are deferred, your enrolment is inactive, and we pause your enrolment duration. Then, when you are reactivated from deferment, you pick up exactly where you left off and carry on.

Here is what you need to know about deferring:You can defer a maximum of two times. The first deferment is free, and the second deferment has a $45 fee.Payment plans continue on deferment, and your payments must be up to date before we can defer you.

You won’t have access to your trainer or learning platform while you’re status is “deferred”.If you have at least 6 weeks remaining in your enrolment, you can defer for up to 3 months. After that, you can defer for twice the amount of time remaining in your enrolment (for example, if you have 1 week left in your enrolment, you can defer for 2 weeks.)

The most important thing is to contact us if your enrolment isn’t going as you planned so that we can offer you the best support options as and when you need them.

How do I access the learning material?

Once your enrolment is finalised, you are set up with a login to your Learner Portal. An email with everything you need to know to get started is sent, and inside the Learner Portal is a video introduction that will show you how to navigate it.Inside the learner portal, you'll find all of your units listed in a logical order, with all lessons in PDFs and videos, broken down into smaller chunks with comprehensive assessment guides to make it as easy as possible to know what you need to do to complete them right the first time. As you complete each item, they are marked as complete, so you can easily see where you're up to when you next log in.
