Are you an experienced VET Professional looking to complete the TAE50122 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training but missing the required pre-requisite units?
You’re not alone!
Many skilled trainers and assessors don’t hold a TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, but that shouldn’t discourage you from levelling up your career.
The good news? You can NOW complete ONLY the pre-requisite units from the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, then seamlessly transition into the TAE50122 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training specialisation of your choice (or you might even choose to complete all 3!)
With the VET sector constantly evolving, staying qualified and current is a great way of ensuring you get noticed when you ask for that new advanced position, pay rise or apply for that new job opportunity. Completing these pre-requisite units ensures you meet the entry requirements for the Diploma while strengthening your core skills as a trainer and assessor and allowing you to stay up-to-date and current with the most recent versions of these units.
The four pre-requisite units lay a solid foundation for the advanced concepts covered in the Diploma. Instead of feeling lost or overwhelmed, you’ll clearly understand competency-based assessment, validation, and training design—setting you up for success.
Depending on the Diploma specialisation you choose to complete (or even if you choose all 3), you must complete between 1-4 pre-requisite units. Let’s look at how this works…
TAE50122 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training – The way the units work
Each specialisation requires you to complete 12 units in total.
3 Core units:
- TAEDES511 Design and develop strategies for training and assessment – requiring the pre-requisite unit: TAEDES411 Use nationally recognised training products to meet vocational training needs
- TAEDES515 Evaluate training
- TAEPDD511 Maintain and enhance professional practice
Then 9 elective units are completed from the 3 different elective groups (you can view the different electives here )
Depending on the skills you want to achieve or get recognised for, you may opt for the following electives in your Diploma, which require pre-requisite units as outlined below.
- TAEASS511 Lead assessment – Required prerequisite is: TAEASS412 Assess competence
- TAEASS513 Lead assessment moderation and validation processes - Required prerequisite is: TAEASS413 Participate in assessment validation
- TAEDEL512 Lead training facilitation -Required prerequisite is: TAEDEL411 Facilitate vocational training
Why do I even need the Diploma?
The TAE50122 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training is the gold standard for senior trainers, lead assessors, and RTO managers. Completing these pre-requisite units and then your Diploma units opens doors to leadership roles, higher salaries, and greater industry recognition.
Instead of starting from scratch with a full Cert IV, you can focus only on the essential units, saving time and money. Once completed, you can jump straight into the Diploma, making this the fastest, most efficient way to progress.
Important Requirements before you dive in
While it is possible to enrol for the Diploma without holding the TAE40116 or TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, it is very important to note that you must be working as a trainer and assessor within a registered training organisation and have 2 + years of experience in your file as the Diploma is written for experienced trainers., and assessor or experienced VET professionals who want to get recognised for the work they have already been doing within the VET sector.
